Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections in the Philippines is nearing the 80,000 mark, now at 78,412 after the Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday posted 2,019 new cases.

This marks the 5th time in the past week where new infections crossed the 2,000 mark.

The top five areas in the country with the highest number of Covid-19 infections are the National Capital Region with 1,115, Cebu with 479, Cavite with 90, Rizal with 52, Davao del Sur with 41.

Currently, there are 50,763 active Covid-19 infections undergoing treatment or quarantine: 89.89 percent are mild, 9.18 percent are asymptomatic, 0.50 percent are severe, and 0.43 percent are in critical condition.

The Department of Health (DOH) also confirmed an impressive spike in recoveries with 1,278 more patients winning the fight against the respiratory illness, elevating the tally of survivors to 25,752.

Death toll, on the other hand, inches to 1,897 with 20 new fatalities.

The Philippines remains on top in Southeast Asia for the most number of Covid-19 “active” cases. Indonesia followed behind with 37,218 active cases trailed by Singapore with 4,689 active cases. (RJ Espartinez)
