The Philippines crossed the 30,000 mark for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases with 653 new infections, elevating the country’s tally to 30,052, the Department of Health (DOH) announced Saturday.

415 of the new cases are “fresh” or newly validated: 219 came from Metro Manila, 89 came from Region VII, while the remaining 107 were spread out across the country.

238 of the new cases are reported late: 32 came from Metro Manila, 177 came from Region VII, while the 29 other patients came from various municipalities and towns nationwide.

“Today’s fresh cases are based on the daily accomplishment reports submitted by only 45 out of 59 current operational labs,” the DOH stated, noting that one duplicate case previously counted was removed from the total tally of infections.

The country’s death toll, on the other hand, inches to 1,169 with 19 new deaths.

In a bit of good news, recoveries jumped to 7,893 with 243 more patients winning the battle against COVID-19. (RJ Espartinez)
