The Philippines’ coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) caseload leaped to 311,694 after the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed on Wednesday 2,426 new infections.
Majority of the new cases were recorded in Metro Manila, the country’s pandemic epicenter, with 887 infections; followed by Cavite with 201; Rizal with 147; Negros Occidental with 115; and Batangas with 99.
Currently, 52,702 active Covid-19 cases are undergoing treatment or quarantine: 86.4 percent are mild, 9 percent are asymptomatic, 1.4 percent are severe, and 3.2 percent are in critical condition.
The country’s recovery rate increased to 253,488 after the DOH announced 585 more patients winning the fight against the respiratory illness.
Death toll, on the other hand, also leaped to 5,504 with 58 new fatalities: 42 died in September, twelve in August, and 4 in July.
“Moreover, 14 cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified to deaths after final validation,” the DOH added.
The Philippines sits on the 7th spot in the world for the most number of new Covid-19 infections. The top 3 countries are Russia (8,481 new cases), India (5,955), and Mexico (4,446). RJ Espartinez
