The Philippines exceeded the 67,000 mark on coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 2,241 new cases on Sunday.

The nationwide tally rose to 67,456, health authorities said.

The top five Covid-19 hotspots in the country were Metro Manila with 1,625 cases, Laguna with 115, Cavite with 76, Rizal with 75, and Cebu with 55.

The DOH said there were 43,160 active Covid-19 cases undergoing medical treatment or in quarantine.

It said 90.1 percent were mild cases, 9.1 percent were asymptomatic, 0.4 percent were severe, and 0.4 percent were in critical condition.

The DOH also reported 398 recoveries, increasing the tally of Covid-19 survivors to 22,465.

The death toll climbed to 1,831 with 58 more patients dying from the respiratory illness.

The Philippines took the lead in Southeast Asia for the most number of “active” Covid-19 cases. Indonesia followed with 36,977 active Covid-19 cases. RJ Espartinez
