227 new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been reported, bringing the total number to 2,311, the Department of Health (DOH) announced Wednesday.
Eight new fatalities and one recovery have also been reported by the health department, bringing the total number of deaths to 96 and 50 recoveries.
All new fatalities were senior citizens.
PH415, a 79-year-old Filipino female from Makati City with unknown travel history, died on March 28 due to severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) secondary to pneumonia and COVID-19. She tested positive on March 22 and also suffered from hypertension and hyperthyroidism.
PH621, a 77-year-old Filipino male from Manila without travel history, died on March 29 due to septic shock, pneumonia, and COVID-19. He tested positive on March 24 and also suffered from prostate cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
PH692, an 80-year-old Filipino male from San Juan City with no travel history, died on March 30 due to pneumonia and COVID-19. The patient, who suffered from hypertension, tested positive for COVID-19 on March 25.
PH1039, an 84-year-old Filipino male from Mandaluyong City without travel history, died on March 25 due to pneumonia and COVID-19. The patient tested positive on March 25.
PH1089, a 65-year-old Filipino female from Quezon City without travel history, died on March 22 due to ARDS and pneumonia. She tested positive for COVID-19 on March 27, five days after her death. She also suffered from diabetes and cardiac disease.
PH1299, a 73-year-old Filipino male from Pasig City with unknown travel history, died on March 21 due to acute respiratory failure, ARDS, septic shock, and pneumonia secondary to COVID-19. He tested positive for COVID-19 on March 25 and also suffered from myocarditis, diabetic ketoacidosis, acute kidney injury, and hypertension.
PH1723, a 70-year-old Filipino male from Cebu City with unknown travel and exposure history, died on March 28 where he also got the results on the same day. He died due to respiratory distress syndrome with multiple organ failure secondary to COVID-19 infection. The patient had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and coronary artery disease.
PH1811, a 66-year-old Filipino male from Paranaque City with unknown travel history, died on March 24 due to acute respiratory failure and pneumonia. He tested positive for COVID-19 on March 28 and also suffered from hypertension.
The only reported patient to recover from COVID-19 reported for the day is PH179, a 59-year-old Filipino male from Taguig City with no travel history, who tested positive for the disease on March 16. He started to feel the symptoms on March 11 and was released from the hospital on March 29 after getting two consecutive negative test results. (RJ Espartinez)
