The Philippines registered 2,124 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases nationwide breaching the 56,000 mark for total cases, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Monday morning.
One thousand six hundred ninety are reported as fresh cases while 434 are late cases or were part of the DOH’s validation backlog.
The Philippines has currently 38,676 active cases of COVID-19, mostly mild or asymptomatic.
The DOH has attributed the continued increase in COVID-19 infections to the country’s expanded testing capacity and the relaxation of quarantine measures.
The health department also reported a 2,009 recoveries and 162 deaths.
The country now has 56,259 COVID-19 cases. 16,046 recoveries and 1,534 total fatalities.
Indonesia still leads Southeast Asia in total number of COVID-19 cases with 75,699 followed by the Philippines. Singapore is third with 45,961. (Rommel F. Lopez)
