The Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday reported 3,637 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases, bringing the Philippines’ total cases to 213,131.

The Philippines has the fourth highest number of reported cases Saturday.  India has the most number of new cases in the world with 7,032, followed by Mexico with 5,824 and Russia with 4,941.

Most of the new cases came from the National Capital Region with 2,030, followed by Laguna with 217, Rizal with 155, Cavite with 142, and Batangas with 113.

The Philippines has 74,611 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine. Of this, 91.3 percent are mild, 6.7 percent are asymptomatic, 0.8 percent are severe, and 1.1 percent are in critical condition.

The DOH said 50 duplicate cases were removed from the total case count.

Total recoveries rose to 135,101 after 655 more patients recovered from the deadly disease

Death toll, on the other hand, rose to 3,410 after the DOH reported 94 new fatalities.

Among the new deaths, one percent occurred in June, 12 or 13 percent occurred in July and 86 percent occurred in August.

Experts from the University of the Philippines has projected that the country’s COVID-19 cases may reach 375,000 by the end of September.

The Philippines remains the country with the most number of Covid-19 cases in Southeast Asia followed by Indonesia with 169,195 and Singapore with 56,717.  Rommel F. Lopez
