The Philippines breached the 21,000 mark on coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases with 714 new infections, elevating the country’s total tally to 21,340, the Department of Health (DOH) announced Saturday.

350 of the new cases are “fresh” or newly validated: 104 came from Metro Manila, 171 came from Region VII or Central Visayas, and 75 came from other areas.

364 of the new cases are late: 140 came from Metro Manila while 224 came from other areas in the country.

In a bit of good news, recoveries continue to increase with 111 more patients winning the fight against COVID-19, bringing the total to 4,441. 

Death toll, on the other hand, inches to 994 with 7 new deaths from the infection.

Singapore remains on top in Southeast Asia for the most number of COVID-19 cases at 37,527. Indonesia followed on its tail with 30,514 trailed by the Philippines.  (RJ Espartinez)
