The Philippines’ coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) tally skyrocketed to 279,526 after the Department of Health (DOH) on Friday announced 3,257 new infections. 

This marks the 11th consecutive day where new cases posted have exceeded the 3,000 mark. 

The top areas in the country with the most number of new Covid-19 infections are Metro Manila (997), followed by Bulacan (282), Cavite (179), Negros Occidental (152) and Cebu (127).

Currently, there are 65,906 active Covid-19 cases in the country. 

Meanwhile, the recovery rate in the country now totals 208,790 after the DOH confirmed 733 more patients winning the fight against the said respiratory illness. 

Death toll is now at 4,830 with 47 fatalities. 

The Philippines sits on the 3rd spot in the world for the most number of new Covid-19 infections, trailing behind Russia (5,905 new cases) and neighbor Indonesia (3,891 cases).  RJ Espartinez
