The Philippines has crossed the 100,000 mark on coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases after the Department of Health (DOH) announced a new record high of 5,032 infections, raising the nationwide total tally to 103,185.

This marks the first-ever the country recorded more than 5,000 cases for a single day.

The top five areas in the country with the highest number of new cases are Metro Manila with 2,737; Cavite with 463; Cebu with 449; Laguna with 326; and Rizal with 201.

Currently, there are 35,569 active Covid-19 cases undergoing medical treatment or quarantine.

The country’s recovery rate, on the other hand, increased to 65,557 with 301 more patients winning the fight against the respiratory illness. 

Death toll spiked to 2,059 with 20 new fatalities. 

Indonesia remains the top country in Southeast Asia for the most number of Covid-19 cases at 111,455.  The Philippines followed behind trailed by Singapore with 52,825 cases.  (RJ Espartinez)
