The Philippines hit the 10,000 mark for the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) positive cases after the Department of Health (DOH) announced on Wednesday 320 new infections, bringing the country’s total confirmed infections to 10,004.
Patients who have successfully recovered from the disease spiked to 1,506 after the DOH confirmed 98 new recoveries.
The country’s death toll, on the other hand, inches to 658 with 21 more fatalities.
Meanwhile, Japan will provide the Philippines with the anti-flu drug Avigan for clinical trials involving 100 patients according to Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire.
Cases in Southeast Asia continue to rise. Singapore hit the 20,000 mark and remains the country with the most number of COVID-19 cases in the region at 20,198. Indonesia followed behind with 12,438 cases trailed by the Philippines. (RJ Espartinez)
