The Philippines has appealed to the Thai government to vaccinate overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Thailand amid a third virus case surge due to Alpha and Delta variants.

Philippine ambassador to Thailand Millicent Cruz-Paredes said she had sent letters to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Interior to include OFWs in vaccination slots.

“Sa aking mga probinsya na nabisita ko na, lagi po nilang sinasabi ang kahalagahan ng contribution ng Filipino community sa kanilang probinsya at nakapila ang Pilipino sa programa nila sa bakuna,” Cruz-Paredes said in a televised government briefing on July 16 (Friday).

(From the provinces I have visited, they always acknowledge the importance of the contribution of Filipino community, hence, they are already in queue for the vaccination program.)

Cruz-Paredes said the OFWs would have to wait because there was a Covid vaccine shortage in Thailand.

Among 30,000 Filipino workers, two were active cases, 27 have recovered, and one died due to Covid-19. Hazel N. Camba
