Local basketball legends have expressed their support for Vice President Leni Robredo’s presidential bid.

Donning pink shirts, Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) legends Olsen Racela, Johnny Abarrientos, and Jojo Lastimosa declared their support for Robredo in a video posted Sunday. The legends were joined by NLEX Road Warriors head coach Yeng Guiao.

“Sa basketball, bawal ang pabagal-bagal. Laging dapat alerto at mabilis kang kumilos,” said Guiao at the beginning of the video.

“Sa basketball, hindi pwedeng pa-absent-absent kapag may training or laban. Dapat laging present. You show up in the most difficult times,” added Racela who is the assistant coach of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and head coach of Far Eastern University.

“At sa basketball, hindi ka pwedeng sumuko. Laban lang ng laban, kahit na pinipilit kang i-foul out ng kalaban,” said Abarrientos, assistant coach of Magnolia Hoshots and FEU.

“Kaya ako, bilib na bilib sa lider na taglay ang katangiang ito,” Lastimosa said, an assistant coach of the Road Warriors.

Abarrientos and Lastimosa were named part of the PBA’s 40 greatest players. Racela, on the other hand, is a nine-time PBA champion.

The said PBA coaches shared that Robredo showcases the qualities of a good leader.

“Ang husay at tibay ng pagiging lider, hindi nasusukat sa kasarian, kundi sa kanyang napatunayan at track record,” he said.

Gilas Pilipinas and TNT Tropang Giga coach Chot Reyes also expressed his support of Robredo last week via his Instagram account. — Ronald Espartinez
