President Rodrigo Duterte will not be announcing the community quarantine classifications for July on Monday night, Palace spokesman Harry Roque said.

Roque said a second Talk to the People address could be scheduled for later this week, during which Duterte would reveal the new classifications.

“Since this is the first time we’re talking about the quarantine classification, magkakaroon pa po iyan ng opportunity for the local government units to appeal before the recommendations become final to the president,” Roque said.

Roque, who is also the mouthpiece of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases, said it was far-fetched to expect that Metro Manila’s quarantine status would be eased.

“General community quarantine po ang ating current quarantine classification sa Metro Manila, siguro po mahirap pong magbago ng classification as of now,” he said.

The new community quarantine classifications will take effect on July 1.

July will also mark the fourth month of the country’s Covid-19 vaccination program, which has given 7,538,128 Filipinos their first vaccine doses. A total of 2,527,286 individuals have been fully vaccinated. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
