President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has yet to appoint a new Bureau of Immigration (BI) commissioner, his press secretary said on Monday.

“No appointment has yet been made to the position of Immigrations Commissioner,” Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said in a statement.

Cruz-Angeles made the statement as alleged appointment papers showing that lawyer Abraham Espejo Jr. has been named BI commissioner circulated online.

Espejo was a dean of the Iglesia ni Cristo-owned New Era University’s college of law.

He also lawyered for former president Joseph “Erap” Estrada and Mandaluyong City Mayor Benjamin Abalos.

Rogelio Gevero Jr. is the BI’s officer in charge pending the designation of a new commissioner. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
