It’s been a confusing past few days for the country’s face shield policy due to clashing announcements by government officials.
On Tuesday, the Palace said that there’s nothing wrong with that.
“Wala pong mali mag-flip-flop kung mayroon kasing mga supervening events. Kaya nga po tayo nag-“flip-flop,” kasi mayroon namang Delta variant,” Palace spokesman Harry Roque said in a media briefing.
After days of contradicting statements, President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday night said that the face shield policy would stay due to the threat posed by the Delta variant, which has been found to be more transmissible.
“The process of adapting as this disease further develops and mutates, magpapatuloy po iyan at wala pong flip-flopping diyan dahil tayo ay nagpapatupad ng mga proteksiyon alinsunod na rin sa kung paano nag-mutate ang virus,” Roque said.
The Philippines is the only country in the world that requires face shields on top of face masks.
