Tropical Storm Paeng intensified while moving west northwestward towards the Northern Samar-Sorsogon-Albay area, state weather bureau PAGASA said. 

The center of Paeng was spotted 100 km East Northeast of Catarman, Northern Samar or 165 km East of Juban, Sorsogon (12.8°N, 125.5°E).

It has maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 105 km/h, and central pressure of 990 hPa .

Paeng was seen moving west northwestward at 25 km/h with strong to gale-force winds extending outwards up to 480 km from the center.
