Senatorial race frontrunner Robin Padilla announced of Friday he had tapped former chief presidential legal counsel Salvador Panelo as his “legislative consultant, adviser and mentor” in the Senate.
In a Facebook post, the action star-turned-politician said he needed someone who would help revise the 1987 Constitution.
“Kailangan ko ng pambato sa usapin ng batas pagdating sa senado
Ang pagpapalit ng saligang batas ay hindi magiging madali sapagkat ang babanggain nito ay ang kasalukuyang naghaharing mga oligarko nakakubli sa 1987 Constitution,” Padilla said.
With 98.35 percent of election returns canvassed, Padilla is No. 1 in the senatorial race with more than 26.4 million votes. Panelo, also a senatorial candidate, is 26th with 4.7 million votes.
“Hindi man kami nagtagumpay ni idol Salvador Panelo na maging magkasama sa Senado, isa lang ang sinigurado naming dalawa: Walang mababago sa aming adhikaing pagbabago, walang makakapigil sa rebolusyon,” Padilla said.
Padilla is an advocate of federalism and the government’s anti-illegal drugs and anti-insurgency campaigns. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
