A Japanese fugitive, alleged to be a former member of the notorious Yakuza syndicate and wanted by authorities in Japan for fraud, was arrested and will be deported soon according to the Bureau of Immigration (BI)

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said 71-year-old Katsumi Ohno was arrested last Sept. 30 along the service road in Roxas Blvd., Pasay City by members of the bureau’s fugitive search unit (FSU) through a warrant of deportation issued against the Japanese on June 20, 2019.

The Japanese embassy informed the BI last February of a standing arrest warrant for fraud issued by a Japanese court issued against Ohno.  The BI also learned the Ohno’s passport expired in November 208, making him an undocumented alien.  The BI added that Ohno has been hiding in the country since April 10, 2011 when he arrived as a tourist from Hongkong.

This prompted the BI to issue the deportation order against Ohon and placing him in the BI’s immigration blacklist to prevent him from returning to the Philippines.

Ohno is currently detained at the BI jail in Bicutan, Taguig City while awaiting his deportation to Japan. (Rommel F. Lopez)
