A total of 508,332 individuals in the Philippines have already received their first dose of a coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccine as of March 23, according to the tally of the Department of Health (DOH).

The current figure completes the 62% of the doses reserved for the first jab.

Furthermore, 98% of the initial 1,125,600 doses have been distributed to 1,759 vaccination sites in the country.

Earlier this week, an additional 400,000 Sinovac doses donated by the Chinese government arrived in the country.

“We are sure to protect more healthcare workers,” the DOH said.

The government’s vaccination program drew flak after several mayors received their Covid-19 shot even though they are not the top priority.

The World Health Organization has already warned the Philippines that it could lose its supply of vaccines from the COVAX facility if the priority list will not be strictly followed. Ronald dela Cruz
