Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama’s executive order making optional the wearing of face masks in outdoor settings will be on trial until the end of the year.

The mayor’s Executive Order (EO) No. 6 said the non-obligatory use of face masks in the city would be in effect until Dec. 31.

Rama’s EO No. 5, which took effect on Sept. 1, required face masks to be worn only be in hospitals, clinics, and other medical and diagnostic facilities.

“The same period (Sept. 1 to Dec. 31) is hereby referred to as the trial and period,” the latest EO read.

Only individuals who are sick, immunocompromised or have flu-like symptoms are required to wear masks in the city.

“As a rule, wearing of face mask is not required in outdoor and open spaces subject to the discretion of the mayor in exceptional circumstances,” Rama ordered.

The city’s establishments, businesses and entites are given the power to impose their own mask-wearing policies. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
