The Quezon City government has vaccinated only 42% of the population of senior citizens in the city, the mayor said on Thursday (July 15).

The city was not on track with the 90% target of vaccinated senior citizens of the Department of Health (DOH) for the month of July, said Mayor Joy Belmonte.

“Nahihirapan talaga kami hikayatin ang mga senior citizens na magpabakuna. At present, we have only vaccinated 42% of our senior citizens ano,” Belmonte said in a Laging Handa government briefing.

(We are really having a hard time encouraging the senior citizens to get vaccinated. At present, we have only vaccinated 42% of our senior citizens.)

The local government of Quezon City is planning to give incentives to vaccinated senior citizens and open more vaccination sites in Quezon City prioritizing senior citizens, to encourage them to get vaccinated, Belmonte added.

Belmonte also said that 40% of the total population of Quezon City residents had taken their first dose and 23% had taken their second dose. As of July 15, the city has administered a total of 1,072,230 first and second dose jabs.

“Given the speed at which we are able to roll out, basta’t may bakuna na ready supply. Tingin ko in a few months, two months, kaya nang abutin ang 1.7 million na target ng atin pong lungsod for population protection,” said Belmonte.

(Given the speed at which we are able to roll out, as long as there is an available supply of vaccines. I think in a few months, two months, we can reach the 1.7 million target of our city for population protection.)
