With its high vaccination numbers, Metro Manila may celebrate a normal Christmas this December, officials said on Monday.

Palace spokesman Harry Roque said more than 15 million Covid-19 vaccine doses have been deployed in Metro Manila.

The doses were enough to fully vaccinate 7,025,358 or 71.86 percent of Metro Manila residents, Roque said.

Additionally, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Benhur Abalos said 87.93 percent of Metro Manila residents had received their first vaccine doses.

“Malapit na po marating ang population protection na 80 percent, at kapag nangyari po, hindi lang po magiging masaya ang ating Pasko, magbabalik-buhay din po tayo. Dahil sa bakuna, mas maraming hanapbuhay, mas maraming trabaho,” Roque said in a Palace briefing.

Abalos said Metro Manila could reach the 80-percent threshold by October 26 and 90 percent by December.
