The number of new Covid-19 cases in Metro Manila could reach 2,000 daily by the start of October, the OCTA Research Team said on Friday.

In a tweet, OCTA fellow Guido David said the reproduction number in the region increased from 1.19 on Sept. 12 to 1.26 on Sept. 19.

“It looks like [Metro Manila] will exceed 2,000 cases per day by the start of October,” he said.

Metro Manila is averaging about 1,000 daily cases over the past few days. It recorded 1,026 new infections on Thursday.

David said the 17.5-percent weekly positivity rate in Metro Manila as of Sept. 21 matched the previous peak recorded on Aug. 5.

“It is now likely that this current resurgence will see higher positivity rates over the next weeks,” he said.
