The Philippines has controlled the spread of Covid-19, the National Task Force (NTF) Against Covid-19 said on Wednesday.

The country, which has been seeing a downturn in its daily Covid-19 cases, has 17,864 active cases.

More than 2.8 million cases have been recorded as of Nov. 24.

In a Laging Handa briefing, NTF special adviser Teodoro Herbosa said the nationwide positivity rate had remained low.

“Right now, our current positivity rate, test positivity rate ay 2.8 percent, napakababa po, less than half what WHO (World Health Organization) recommends,” he said.

However, the low positivity rate doesn’t mean the threat of Covid-19 has been eliminated, Herbosa said.

“Puwede pa rin siyang mag-resurgence dahil nandoon pa rin sa test positivity rate na above zero,” he said.

“I think we can be labeled as controlled, kasi walang masyadong new cases sa Covid,” Herbosa added.
