Malacañang on Thursday said there was nothing wrong with President Rodrigo Duterte opting to evade publicity for two weeks because “that’s his style.”

Asked about Duterte’s deliberate absence, Palace spokesman Harry Roque said the public was better off not meddling with the president’s views.

“Wala po kayong magagawa, iyon ang paniniwala ng presidente ‘no – lalo siyang ginigipit, lalo siyang lalaban,” he said,

“So hayaan na po natin iyon, estilo ni Presidente iyon. Kaniya-kaniyang estilo tayo.”

After having two of his public addresses postponed, Duterte made his first public address on April 12, during which he revealed that he planned his absence.

“Noong nawala ako ng ilang araw, talagang sinadya ko ‘yon, ganoon ako e,” he said.

“Pagka kinakalkal mo ako lalo akong—‘yong parang bata. Pagka lalo mo akong kinakantyawan e mas lalo akong gagana.”

During his absence, Duterte, a self-admitted night person, was seen in pictures by his aide playing golf, jogging and riding a tricycle. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
