A 5.0 magnitude earthquake rocked North Cotabato and other parts of Mindanao early Friday morning.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) identified the epicenter of the quake at Makilala, North Cotabato with a depth of 16 kilometers alas-9:55 ngayong umaga.  The quake which struck at 9:55am was tectonic in nature.

Intensity IV was felt in Kidapawan City while Intensity III was felt in Pikit town.

Instrumental Intensities were felt in the following areas: Intensity V – Kidapawan City; Intensity III – Tupi, South Cotabato; Intensity II – Alabel, Sarangani; Davao City at Intensity I – Kiamba, Sarangani; General Santos City.

Employees of city hall and several establishments were seen running out of their work areas after the tremor struck.

Kidapawan City Mayor Joseph Evangelista suspended classes in all levels in both public and private schools. (Rommel F. Lopez)
