North Cotabato – Two towns in the province have already been placed under a state of calamity as dengue cases rose more than 221%.

Provincial Health Officer II Dr. Eva Rabaya, said the towns of Alamada at Banisilan in this province have already declared a state of calamity due to the continuing surge of dengue cases.

According to the regional office of the Department of Health, the province has recorded 4,765 dengue cases and 16 dengue-caused deaths since the start of the year which is the second most infections for Region 12.

South Cotabato has the highest number of dengue cases with 4,784 and twelve deaths. Sultan Kudarat has 2,314 case and ten deaths. Saranggani has 1,173 cases and six deaths. General Santos City has 787 cases with three deaths while Cotabato City has 556 dengue cases.

Early this month, the Department of Health declared a National Dengue Epidemic because of the continuing surge in dengue cases and deaths across the nation.  (Rommel F. Lopez)
