The enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) imposed in the National Capital Region (NCR), Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal has been extended by a week and will now last until April 11.

The ECQ in the “NCR-Plus” bubble was supposed to end tomorrow, April 4, at 11:59 p.m.

According to Palace spokesman Harry Roque, President Rodrigo Duterte approved the ECQ extension on Saturday.

“The enforcement of the prevent, detect, isolate, treat and reintegrate (PDITR) strategy will be intensified. Health care utilization, case numbers and the PDITR gatekeeping indicators would serve as the parameters to be assessed for the succeeding weeks’ risk classification,” he explained.

ECQ, the most stringent lockdown classification, was reimposed on March 29 over a surge in Covid-19 cases.

The extension came after the Philippines saw its Covid-19 case count increase by more than 12,000 cases in two consecutive days.

The Philippines has recorded 784, 043 Covid-19 cases as of April 3. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
