The grounds of the National Bilibid Prison after it was cleared of illegal structures

Bureau of Corrections (BOC) Director Gerald Bantag showed to the public the view deck of the maximum-security compound of the National Bilibid Prison (NBP), which had been cleared of illegal structures.

A fence was built to separate the maximum-security compound from the NBP hospital to prevent non-ill inmates from staying in hospital premises.

All inmates must now stay in the original structures for better monitoring especially the drug lords.

After Monday’s flag raising, Bantag thanked the representatives and officials of the joint task force who participated in the weeks-long clearing operations.

Former NCRPO Chief and now Chief Directorial Staff Police Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar was recognized for his contributions.

According to Eleazar, even if he is no longer NCRPO chief, he will continue to support Bantag in reforming the NBP.

Eleazar also suggested better monitoring of troops after 16 policemen were caught bringing in contraband.

According to Bantag, the visitation of inmates will resume after the debris from the demolition has been cleared.

Meanwhile, results from the PNP anti-cybercrime group and PNP crime lab, which tested the cellphones, tobacco and liquor brought inside the NBP are expected to come out next week. (Jasper Camilo)
