The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned the public that nasal spray products should not be used as alternatives to prevent or treat Covid-19.

“They should not be used as substitutes to medicine and vaccines to prevent or treat SARS-CoV-2 infection or Covid-19″ the FDA said in a statement.

Various claims have been circulating claiming that nasal spray products are effective as an alternative to vaccines in treating and preventing Covid-19 and and SARS-CoV-2.

But the FDA clarified that any nasal spray products should not have any pharmaceutical ingredients that directly treat, eliminate or cure such diseases.

“These nasal spray products have been authorized as medical devices which are intended for short-term use in the nasal cavity and serve as mechanical barriers from particulates. These are sprays that coat the nasal mucosa with substances that have a non-specific effect against pathogens.” says the FDA.
