The Department of Health (DOH) confirmed that 72% of the 4,200 intensive care unit beds in the country dedicated for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) patients are already occupied, bringing the situation as high risk.

According to the latest data from the DOH, the National Capital Region’s (NCR) Covid-19 ICU occupancy is now at high risk with 75% of the 1,500 beds occupied.

Occupancy rate is declared as “high risk” if utilization exceeded 70% but less than 85%.

Ward beds for Covid-19 patients across the country as well in the NCR are at high risk.

The DOH added that 71% of the 15,400 ward beds in the country are currently in use while 73% of the 4,200 ward beds in NCR are also in use.

Moreover, 57% of the 3,300 mechanical ventilators in the country are not available, while 62% of 1,100 ventilators in NCR are in use. Ronald Espartinez
