The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said that it will implement the expanded number coding scheme starting August 15 due to the return of full face-to-face classes in November.

Acting chairman Carlo Dimayuga said the number scheme schedules are from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. One of the 16 mayors of the 16 cities and municipalities approved the said measure.

Vehicles with plate numbers ending on 1 and 2 will not be allowed on public roads every Mondays; 3 and 4 on Tuesdays; 5 and 6 on Wednesdays; 7 and 8 on Thursdays; and 9 and 0 on Fridays.

Dimayuga added that they will not yet apprehend violators of the number coding scheme from August 15 to August 17.

“We will not conduct arrests yet, we will just remind them,” Dimayuga said in Filipino. “But on the 18th, [the arrests] will begin, we will start to hand out tickets.”

Meanwhile, public utility vehicles including tricycles, transport network vehicle services, garbage trucks, fuel trucks, fire trucks, ambulances, marked media vehicles, marked government vehicles, and motor vehicles carrying essential and/or perishable goods are all exempted from the coding scheme.
