Mindanao has more active coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases than the National Capital Region and the rest of Luzon, the Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday said.
Data from the DOH revealed that as of June 2, Mindanao has 11,391 active cases in Mindanao, with Metro Manila registering 10,174 cases.
DOH Epidemiology Bureau Director Alethea De Guzman said in a virtual presser that Cagayan and Central Luzon “have the highest cases and fastest incline” but noted that Davao City and the Zamboanga region is experiencing a spike in new cases.
“Kung pag uusapan natin yung bilis at pagtaas ng kaso, the Mindanao cases as a whole is higher than the cases we are seeing now in Luzon and NCR.” she said in an online press conference.
At least 40 employees from various departments of the Davao City Hall and the city council tested positive for Covid-19 within the week.
On Wednesday, Davao City government said they forwarded their request to the IATF-Regional Task Force (IATF-RTF) to be under the stricter modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) from June 5 to 30, 2021 “to allow a circuit breaker in the surge of patients inside hospitals” as it experiences a surge in Covid-19 cases. – Rommel F.
