National Capital Region mayors have agreed to temporarily suspend the reopening of cinemas and amusement arcades due to the spike of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases, according to Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairperson Benhur Abalos.
Abalos said during an interview with dzBB that a resolution signed by NCR mayors will be released, keeping the said businesses closed.
“Ang ginawa ng mga mayor…medyo wala munang sinehan. Ang term is ‘temporarily suspended’ ang movies, cinemas, and the arcades,” he said.
“Siguro, titignan naman natin. Temporary lang naman ito hangga’t medyo gumanda-ganda ang kaso,” he added.
The mayors recognized the increasing numbers of Covid-19 cases in their respective cities, and the said decision was finalized during the mayors’ meeting on Saturday.
On February 15, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque explained that the reopening of cinemas in areas under general community quarantine (GCQ) was further postponed to March due to NCR mayors’ apprehension.
Mall operators also decided not to allow cinemas to reopen in GCQ areas like Metro Manila. Ronald dela Cruz
