Malacañang on Friday announced the escalation of Metro Manila to Alert Level 3, as the region saw a drastic rise in Covid-19 cases over the past days.

According to acting Palace spokesman Karlo Nograles, Metro Manila will be under the heightened alert level from Jan. 3 to 15, 2022.

Intrazonal and interzonal movement will remain allowed under Alert Level 3, but vulnerable Filipinos and those under 18 years old will only be allowed to avail themselves of essential goods and services.

Face-to-face classes in all levels are prohibited under Alert Level 3.

Also prohibited are contact sports, funfairs, casinos and live voice events.

Allowed at limited capacity are cinemas, social events, tourist attractions, amusement parks, recreational venues, in-person religious gatherings, licensure examinations, dine-in services, personal care services, fitness studios, non-contact sports and government work.

Metro Manila, which has fully vaccinated nearly 9.6 million individuals, has 3,574 active Covid-19 cases as of Dec. 30. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
