Public Works Secretary Mark Villar announced his resignation on Monday, as he is expected to seek a senatorial seat in 2022.

In a flag-raising ceremony aired over the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Facebook page, Villar said his resignation would take effect on Wednesday.

“Today is my last day after five years. I’ve officially, I’ve filed my resignation effective Wednesday. I’ll be stepping down on Wednesday as your secretary,” he said.

Ruling party PDP-Laban has named Villar among its senatorial bets for 2022.

However, there are also rumors that the DPWH chief will seek the vice presidency in next year’s polls.

Villar is expected to make an announcement of his 2022 plans on Tuesday, the day before his resignation takes effect. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
