Presidential aspirant and former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. committed to solve the power supply problems in the Bicol Region if he wins the May 2022 elections.

Marcos said that the issue of power supply has been a perennial problem in the entire region, noting that the issue of electricity has also been made worse due to strong typhoons that pass the region every year.

“Ang laking epekto nito sa pang-araw-araw na ikinabubuhay ng ating mga kababayan. Hindi na nga sila komportable sa kanilang sariling tahanan at opisina, marami nang appliances tiyak ang sinira dahil sa walang katapusang brownout sa Bicolandia,” said Marcos, in a statement.

Bicol is the home region of Vice President Leni Robredo, who served as a Camarines Sur district representative prior to defeating Marcos in the 2016 vice presidential race.  She is now running against Marcos for the presidency in the 2022 elections.

Marcos said a long-term solution is needed to solve the problem. He highlighted the importance of conducting studies on alternative renewable energy sources.

“Ang gagamitin natin is natural sources of energy. Hindi na tayo gagamit ng coal. Hindi gagamit ng fossil fuel. Kailangan meron tayong kapalit and the renewables ay available,” Marcos said. Ronald Espartinez
