President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Monday expressed the country’s willingness to help Turkey and Syria, which were hit by a deadly 7.8-magnitude earthquake.

Authorities have reported a death toll of 1,300 after the quake that hit southeastern Turkey and northern Syria.

A 7.6-magnitude earthquake hit southern Turkey about 12 hours after the initial quake.

In a tweet on Monday afternoon, Marcos Jr. sent thoughts and prayers to the quake-hit countries.

“Our thoughts and prayers go to the peoples and governments of Türkiye and Syria following the strong earthquake that has claimed many lives and caused massive destruction to their countries,” he said.

“The Philippines is ready to help in whatever way it can in responding to this disaster.”
