Presidential aspirant and former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. claimed Monday that he is a victim of disinformation proliferating in social media.

“I don’t see how that (myself benefitting from fake news) is [happening]. Para sa akin, ako ang nabibiktima ng fake news dahil ang dami daming sinabi na ‘di totoo,” Marcos said at the Go Negosyo forum.

Marcos did not mention the supposed lies against him.

“Biktima kami diyan eh. Fina-fact check ako, na sinasabi hindi totoo yung mga sinasabi ko, wala naman akong sinabing ganun. Pero fake news daw yung sinabi ko… Iniimbento nila yung sinasabi ko, tapos sasabihing fake,” he added.

Marcos added that fact checkers shouldn’t have political agenda.

“Fact checkers, kung minsan, may sariling agenda. Kaya fina-fact check lang nila iyong one side of the story. ‘Yung kabila, hindi nila ginagawa. Tanggalin natin yung mga ganun,” he said.

The namesake and only son of the late dictator and plunderer made the comments two days after presidential candidate and Vice President Leni Robredo said that Marcos is the main beneficiary of the disinformation materials spreading on social media.

Robredo was citing the results of the analysis of online election disinformation by independent fact-checking coalition Tsek.PH.  The study found that Robredo is negatively targeted the most among the presidential candidates while Marcos  is the main beneficiary of online disinformation.   Ronald Espartinez
