Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso

The City of Manila announced that all of its elected officials—the Mayor, the Vice Mayor and City Councilors — will donate their whole salaries for the month of April amounting to P4.7 million to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH).

Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said it is the city government officials’ initiative to show unity and compassion to the nation’s health workers and frontliners who are fighting to end the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak.

Domagoso also acknowledged Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan and all City Councilors for their participation to help him raise the amount.

“In our own little way, sana po ay makatulong po ito sa pagpapalakas ng kakayanan ng ating mga frontliner, particularly sa healthcare sector,” the Mayor stated.

“Sa pagkakaisa po ng mga halal ng bayan, mas marami po tayong magagawa upang labanan ang global pandemic ng COVID-19,” he added.

Moreno also sent his gratitude to the House of Representatives for responding to their call when Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano announced that nearly 200 members of HOR have pledged to also donate their salaries to fund the government’s battle to end the COVID-19 pandemic.

Isko revealed the names of congressmen who pledged their support: Rep. Lito Atienza (Buhay), Rep. Manny Lopez (Manila District 1), Rep. Rolan Valeriano (Manila District 2), Rep. Yul Servo Nieto (Manila District 3) and House Minority Leader Benny Abante (Manila District 6).

Domagoso also encouraged the Manileños to strictly follow the government’s directives and comply with the rules of the enhanced community quarantine.

“Sana naman po ay tayong mga mamamayan mismo ang tumugon po sa panawagan ng pamahalaan na mag-social distancing at mag-home quarantine para maiwasan ang paglaganap ng COVID-19,” he stated.  (RJ Espartinez)
