A magnitude 4 earthquake jolted Ilocos Sur past noontime on Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs said the quake was an aftershock of the 7.0 tremor last Wednesday.

The quake’s epicenter was located two kilometers northeast of Magsingal town. It triggered a “moderately strong” Intensity 4 jolt in nearby Sinait town.

The state seismology agency said an Intensity 4 quake can awaken people who are lightsleepers while its vibration is similar to the passing of a heavy truck.

A “weak” Intensity 3 was recorded in Bangued, Abra; Pinili; and Batac, Ilocos Norte.

Instrumental intensities were also recorded in the following locations:

Intensity 3 – Vigan City and Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Laoag City, Ilocos Norte

Intensity 2 – Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte

Authorities reported that there were 33 aftershocks felt out of the 1,412 tremors logged because of the July 27 Luzon quake.
