Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte on Thursday apologized on ABS-CBN’s Teleradyo after a number of recipients did not receive any cash assistance after waiting for hours.

This after authorities decided that only 2,000 city residents per day would be given cash assistance, supposedly to prevent violations of quarantine protocols.

Due to the large turnout, residents were unable to maintain social distancing in the queues.

Some cities in the “NCR-Plus” area began giving out cash assistance on April 7 in line with the guidelines released by the Department of the Interior Local Government.

These are Quezon City, Navotas, Caloocan, Manila, Marikina, Taguig, and Parañaque.

With the reimposition of the enhanced community quarantine, cash assistance of  P1,000 will be given to persons affected, up to a maximum of  P4,000 per family.

Manila City received P1,523,000 from the national government for distribution to residents, according to Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso.

On March 29, President Rodrigo Duterte approved the distribution of P22.9 billion for cash assistance to cities and provinces under the Enhanced Community Quarantine in the NCR-Plus bubble. A.C.R. Biscocho
