The upcoming basketball match of one of the country’s biggest collegiate rivalries united for one cause.

The student councils of San Beda University and Colegio de San Juan de Letran, long-time rivals in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), have encouraged their supporters to wear pink on Friday during their men’s senior basketball game.

Pink is associated with Vice president and presidential aspirant Leni Robredo.

“Even the greatest rivals in Philippine sports are to make a truce for a cause greater than our disparity,” the San Beda Student Council said.

The Letran Knights and San Beda Red Lions, which is considered as one of the most classical rivalries in Philippine collegiate basketball, are set to clash on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.

Earlier in another collegiate league, supporters of UAAP arch-rivals Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University wore pink during their university’s basketball game on April 11. — Ronald Espartinez
