Manila Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna will run for the mayorship in the 2022 elections, she told media outfits on Wednesday.

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso earlier on Wednesday said he would entrust the Philippine capital city to his vice mayor of over two years.

“Walang halong pagdududa ko kayong ipagkakatiwala kay Honey Lacuna, dahil alam ko po na kaya niyang ipagpatuloy ang mga bagay na nasimulan na natin sa lungsod ng Maynila at mamamayan nito,” Domagoso said as he formally announced his presidential bid.

Domagoso also said Lacuna would help Manila continue its fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, with her being a doctor.

Lacuna has a long history of serving in Manila. Even before becoming a politician, she was an employee at the Manila health office.

She was city councilor from 2004 to 2013 and served her first term as Manila vice mayor from 2016 to 2019.

Lacuna told Rappler that she would run alongside Manila 3rd District Rep. Yul Servo.
