Around 200,000 domestic helpers (kasambahays) working in the National Capital Region (NCR) are expected to get a salary increase in the coming weeks.

The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) approved the proposal granting a P1,000 wage hike for household workers in Metro Manila, pushing their monthly salary to P6,000, according to Director Rolly Francia of the Labor Department’s Information and Publication Service.

Francia added that once affirmed by the National Wages and Productivity Commission, the wage hike will start 15 days after publication in a national newspaper.

Meanwhile, wage boards in Calabarzon and SOCCSKSARGEN are still holding public hearings on requests to increase the pay of domestic workers. Other regions in the country, except for BARMM, are getting a monthly minimum wage hike this month.
