Controversial logistics and courier services firm J&T Express promised to participate in any investigation President Rodrigo Duterte ordered on their reported mishandling of parcels.

“We appreciate the concern expressed by the President towards our customers’ welfare as well as the well-being of our many partners and employees,” J&T Express vice president Zoe Chi stated.

“Furthermore, we will cooperate with the government in any investigation that they will conduct,” Chi added.

Duterte directed the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate the courier company with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) checking its finances.

The president ordered the investigation after secretly recorded video showing the company’s employees throwing packages carelessly in a truck and not following minimum health protocols set by the government during the COVID-19 pandemic went viral.

Duterte ordered the investigation during his televised late night briefing Monday.

The closure of the company is possible if found guilty, according to Duterte himself.  He also said that reports were sent to him that some of the items were lost or replaced by the company.

J&T Express, on the other hand, said that the company is “committed to improving our services for the benefit of the public.”

The company also said that they will sanction those people involved in the careless handling of packages.
