Japan is set to donate one million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to the Philippines, the country’s envoy to Manila announced on Monday.

In a tweet, Japan’s envoy to the Philippines Koshikawa Kazuhiko said the shipment would arrive in Manila tentatively on July 8.

“We are working double time so this donation reaches Philippine shores without delay,” Kazuhiko said.

Japan’s vaccine donations will be the Philippines’ first AstraZeneca doses not from the Covax facility.

Japan became the fourth country to pledge vaccines to the Philippines. The US, Australia and China have promised to send vaccines to the country.

The country has received 17,455,470 Covid-19 vaccines so far. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
