President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has declared Jan. 9 a special non-working day in Manila for the Feast of the Black Nazarene.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, who signed Proclamation No. 120 on behalf of Marcos Jr. on Friday, said Manileños should be given “full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies.”

Work done during special non-working days. according to the Department of Labor and Employment, pays an employee an additional 30 percent of their daily rate and 30 percent of their hourly overtime rate.

Employees who won’t show up to work will be subject to a “no work, no pay” policy unless otherwise stated by company policy granting payment on special days.

This year’s Black Nazarene feast will not feature the grand procession or the grand procession of the image of the Black Nazarene because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, a “walk of faith” will be mounted from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. on Jan. 8, which will start from the Quirino Grandstand and end at the Quiapo Church. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
