Manila Mayor Isko Moreno will run for the presidency in next year’s national elections with former senatorial candidate Willie Ong as his vice president, according to the Manila City Public Information Office.
Lito Banayo, Isko’s campaign manager also confirmed the news..
Banayo said Moreno selected Ong as his vice president because Ong would be helpful in addressing the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.
Ong got his medicinal degree from De La Salle University and also served as a consultant for the Department of Health (DOH).
“Itong tambalan na ito ay pinag-isipan nang mabuti. Ayaw namin na political marriage. ‘Yung nag tambalan kasi malakas sa ganitong probinsya sa ganitong rehiyon,” Banayo said.
“Ang gusto kasi ni Mayor Isko Moreno yung makakatulong sa pamamahala. Lalo na ngayon, mayroon tayong pandemya,” he added.
“Walang trabaho, nagugutom ang tao. Sana naman sa kalusugan ng tao, may tututok talaga.”
